Panthers News · JV Boys Tennis Results vs. Vicksburg (Monday August 27, 2012)

Our boys JV tennis team got their season started in match play. We started last Friday up at the Portland Quad Invitational. Only it turned into a five team match when Ann Arbor Greenhills showed up unexpected. So our boys got four matches in on a very long and hot day. Cecil Burkhart at the #1 singles and Josh Rennell at the #3 singles posted our only W’s on the day. We lost several tie breakers which were tough to take, but we played against the strongest competition ever at this tournament. Two of the teams present (Ann Arbor Greenhills & Travese City West) would beat a lot of varsity programs. That’s how strong they were. I was proud of our guys for hanging in and competing so well.

We traveled to Vicksburg yesterday to play their JV squad. After an hour or more delay due to the weather we finally got started. We won both singles matches but dropped our three doubles matches and the last one on the courts going all three full sets. Again, some solid play and improvement from our boys. Sturgis comes to our courts this Wednesday in our first home match of the season. Below are the results for our Vicksburg match.

#1 Josh Rennell       won  6-3, 6-1
#2 Grant Meszaros   won  6-2, 6-1
