The Western Boys Basketball magical season came to an end Thursday night with 55-41 loss to the tough Holt Rams in the Class A district semifinal at Mason. The Panthers got off to a slow start and found themselves down by 15 going into the break. The boys stormed right back in the third quarter to close the gap to six points on two different occasions. Each time Western cut the lead to six, Holt would respond with a key basket and were able to put us away late. Holt was a tough match up as their front court had a 6’10 and 6’5 player to counter our big guys. Western was led by Steele ‘Double-Double’ Fortress with 10 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Seniors Connor Cottingham and Jordan Range each scored 9 points in their last game as a Panther. Tyler Jones also played in his last game as a Western Panther. All three seniors will be greatly missed. The Panthers end the season with a 16-5 record. The 16 wins represent the highest win total for the program in several years. Go Panthers!
“Holt was a very tough match up for us. Their combination of size and speed were very difficult to handle and we should keep our heads held high as we battled with one of the top teams in the state. I am sorry proud of how our guys battled back in the 2nd half. It is sad to see this great season come to an end.”
