The JV softball team hosted Marshall for an I-8 conference double header. Western jumped out to an early lead in game one, scoring 7 runs in the first inning. The Panthers never looked back scoring 15 runs in 5 innings and only allowing Marshall to score 3. Chelsea Hurt was the winning pitcher on the mound for Western. Leading the offensive attack was Delanie King with 3 hits and 2 RBI’s, Jenna Whisman with 2 hits and 4 RBI’s. Annika Oliver, Hayden Fortress, Natalie Shellberg, Chelsea Hurt, Natalie Brown and Madysen Miotke each added 1 hit.
In game two, the Panthers got off to a slow start scoring only 6 runs through 5 innings. Marshall showed true toughness in game two racking up 6 unanswered runs in the top of the 6th inning to leave the score tied going into the 7th inning. Marshall then added 3 more runs to leave the Panthers with only 3 outs left to score 4 runs to win the game. The Panthers were able to string multiple hits together to tie up the score 9-9 with 2 outs left. With Brown on second base, King hit a line shot to left field to score and Western took the walk-off win! Leading the offensive attack in game two was Natalie Shellberg with 2 hits and 2 RBI’s, Jenna Whisman with 2 hits and 1 RBI, and Natalie Brown with 2 hits. Other contributors for the Panthers were Delanie King with 1 hit and 1 RBI, Chelsea Hurt with 1 hit and Madysen Miotke with 1 hit. Hayden Fortress did an excellent job on the mound for Western picking up the win!
The Panthers will travel to Jackson High on Friday for a non-conference double header!
