The Western Varsity Boys Basketball team notched another comeback win on Tuesday night defeating the host Pennfield Panthers 49-46. The Panthers of Western had not played a game in over a week and they looked rusty in the beginning. Western found themselves down 8 early in the second quarter before grinding back to only be down by two heading into the break. Pennfield outscored Western by 2 in the third quarter and was in the lead most of the second half until the Panthers took over in the final 3 minutes of the game. Trey Cottingham led the way with 14 points and hit key free throws late to seal the victory. Nathan Burk chipped with 10 points and a team high 8 rebounds. Tyler Oxley chipped in with 7 points and Caleb Griffith provided great energy off the bench to finish with 6 points along with hitting key free throws down the stretch. The victory moves the Panthers record to 11-3 overall and 8-1 in the Interstate 8 Conference. Western moves back into a tie for first place in the conference with Coldwater. Next up is a battle for first place on Friday night vs. Coldwater in the Den. Go Panthers!
“We came out flat tonight. It was somewhat expected because we had not played in over a week. Our guys are “cardiac” kids. They never stop fighting and found a way to get it done in the way. Great job guys.”
