The Lady Panthers traveled to Coldwater last night to take on a tough Cardinals team. The game started out with both teams battling back and forth for the lead. The Lady Panthers could not seem to figure out how not to foul the Cardinals that would drive to the basket. Once the Lady Panthers settled in and realized how to deny the ball and step up their defense without fouling, they began to play their game again. Quarter 1 the Panthers outscored the Cardinals 8-5. Quarter 2 the Cardinals outscored the Panthers 6-9. Quarter 3 the Panthers came alive offensively due to Kyndall Lewis’ effort. She helped spark the 16-7 run scoring 9 of her 12 points in this quarter. Quarter 4 the Panthers and Cardinals were dead even at 12-12. The Panthers eventually held off the feisty Cardinals to secure the 42-33 victory.
It was a great team victory. Every member on the team contributed in some way whether it was grabbing rebounds, playing tough defense, scoring points, distributing the ball, or being an amazing teammate keeping the intensity and the encouragement coming from the bench. This team modeled the word “grit” in perfect fashion.
Leaders for the evening were: Kyndall Lewis with 12 points and 7 rebounds, Madi Barnes collected 8 points and 8 rebounds before leaving the game with an injury, Riley Kubiak scored 8 points and grabbed 7 rebounds, Chloe Hoxie scored 5 points and snatched 3 rebounds, Syd Siders scored 2 points and worked hard on defense, Cassidy Lammers scored 2 points and was a major pest on defense, Alyssa Gennety scored 2 points and pulled in 4 rebounds, and Liberty Skrzynski scored 1 point at the free throw line and grabbed 1 rebound. Every Panther scored for the first time this year. The Panthers are back in action tomorrow at Pennfield beginning at 11:30. Come out and support this great group of ladies. Go Panthers!
