The Western Panthers Varsity Boys Basketball team defeated the Ionia Bulldogs 58-41 in the Regional semifinals at Marshall High School on Tuesday night. The Panthers won the first two quarters and took a 11 point lead into halftime. Western came out of the locker room ready to go and held the Bulldogs scoreless for the first 6 minutes of the third quarter. Ionia dialed up the pressure late and closed the gap to 10 but the Panthers made key free throws down the stretch to finish the game. Western was led in scoring by Caleb Griffith with 12 points while shooting a perfect 6 for 6 from the floor. Nathan Burk had another great all around game with 11 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists. Landon French chipped in with 8 points while pulling down 6 rebounds. Daniel Duston poured in 6 points while Elijah Ebong and Trey Cottingham had 5 a piece. Tyler Whisman provided great energy off the bench and pulled down a team high 8 rebounds. The victory moves the Panthers’ record to 18-5 on the season. Western will play Haslett on Thursday night at 7 pm in Marshall for the Regional Championship. Go Panthers!
