Varsity Girls Basketball · Varsity Girls Defeat Hanover Horton!


Tuesday night the Comets of Hanover Horton arrived in the Panther  Den looking for a good game.  The Panthers were ready to defend the Den and came out strong in the first quarter winning 18-6.  The Panthers then fell apart in the second quarter and forgot how to shoot a basketball, and were outscored 6-5.  A refocus at halftime led the Panthers back into the driver’s seat, for the third quarter, with a score of 20-9.  The Panthers let up a little in the fourth quarter, but still got the win with 13-11.  The final score for the night was Panthers 56 – Comets 32.  The entire team contributed to the win and played a strong defensive game.  Leading the team in rebounds was Alyna Lewis and Hayden Fortress with 11 rebounds each.  Chelsea Hurt got hot after halftime and scored all her 10 points in the second half, and also grabbed 9 rebounds.  Hillary Griffin and Reece Hitt each added 9 points, while Alyna Lewis and Natalie Shellberg were close behind with 8. Syd Siders came through with 5 points  and Alyssa Gennety, Hayden Fortress and Madi Barnes all contributed to the final score.  Madi Barnes and Hillary Griffin each had 5 rebounds.  Margie Oxley also helped out with 3 strong rebounds for the Panthers.  The Panthers have a tough home game Friday night against the 1-8 team from Coldwater.  Come on out and support your girls – What a great way to celebrate Valentine’s Day!  6:00 pm in the Den.
