Girls Junior Varsity Softball, Girls Varsity Softball · JV Softball Battles Hanover Horton

The JV softball team lost two against Hanover Horton Tuesday night 3-6 and 3-15. Nikki Bradford took the loss in game one, with 9 walks, 1 HBP, and 6 strikeouts and giving up just 1 hit. In game two, Rachel Cary took the loss with 6 walks and giving up 4 hits. Nikki Bradford came in to relieve her striking out 4, walking 2 and giving up 3 hits. Zoe Cooper and Nikki Bradford went 2-3 on the night, while Taylor Stowe, Rachel Cary, and Ashley Harrison each added one hit. The panthers are 0-2 on the season.

Panthers News · Men’s Track Team Defeats Lumen!!

Western’s men’s track and field team traveled to Lumen Christi last night and beat the Titans, 82.5 to 54.5.

Finishing in first place for Western were senior Mitchel Palmer in the 100m high hurdles and the 300m intermediate hurdles, senior Payton Wheeler in the long jump and 200m dash, senior Max Madden in the shot put, senior Alex Sponsler in the discus, and sophomore Sam Ellis in the 100m dash.

Winning the 4x100m relay was the team of Wheeler, Ellis, junior Derrick Dixon, and sophomore Noah Rainwater. The 4x200m relay was won by Palmer, senior Devin Cole, senior Brendan Maynard, and junior Lavert Franklin. The 4x400m relay was won by Western’s Wheeler, senior Will Knickerbocker, junior Jordan Dack, and freshman Chase Veydt.

The Panthers next meet is Thursday at Mason High School.

Boys Varsity Bowling · JV Baseball Splits with Quincy

The Western JV boys baseball team got off to a rocky start Tuesday when they hosted Quincy. The Panthers were defeated 3-2 in their first game of the season.  The Panthers only managed to get 5 hits.

In the second game of the double header the Panthers showed their potential and beat Quincy 11-1 in five innings.  The Panthers were able to tally 11 hits in the contest.  Toney Anderson was a bulldog on the mound pitching all five inning and accumulated 6 strikeouts.  Zach Biederman, Brandt Parshall, and Landon Dillion each had two hits in the second game.  Also having an outstanding game was Michael Rauch with one hit, two walks, two RBI’s, and three runs scored.  The Panthers will host Stockbridge on Thursday for a double header.

Boys Varsity Golf · Boys Gold Defeats Eaton Rapids Led by Josh Dirlam!

The Boys Golf Teams defeated Eaton Rapids yesterday at Arbor Hills Golf Course. Leading the Panthers was Josh Dirlam with a 39 followed closely by Jared Lamberson’s 40, Nick Dobbin”s 41 and Kyle Kirchmeier”s 43. Our team score of 163 was a pleasant surprise for so early in the season.  The JV’s team total of 217 defeated Eaton Rapids by 36 strokes.  Good start to the league season.

Girls Junior Varsity Soccer, Girls Varsity Soccer · Girls Soccer Comes up Short Against Chelsea

The girls varsity soccer team traveled to Chelsea last night to take on the Bulldogs.  The team played some of their best soccer of the season in the first half as they led the game 2-1. Late in the second half a strong Chelsea team scored two goals to defeat the Panthers 3-2.  Scoring for Western were Alyssa Joseph assisted by Sydney Nagy and Lisa Woolworth assisted by Alyssa Joseph. Good job girls!

The JV Girls’ Tennis Team defeated Eaton Rapids 7-1, bringing their record to 2-0.

The girls tennis team traveled to Eaton Rapids today and competed in a tough match.  The final team score ended up in a 4 to 4 tie.

Panthers News · Thought 1 Scholarship Information!

I am attaching a copy of the flyer for the THOUGHT 1 Vs. Detroit Lions fundraising basketball game.  Ticket costs are $10 for adults $5 for students (through college age).  Let me know if you are interested in purchasing tickets to the event!!!!

The Thought 1 Scholarship is a newly established fund that will provide a scholarship to a Jackson County High School graduate who either lost a parent, step-parent or legal guardian to cancer or they are a cancer survivor themselves.
